A 40% exit on a settings screen can look alarming until you learn that users arrive there after completing their goal. Exit is not always abandonment.
Separate intentional exits from friction. Intentional exits often follow success events. Friction shows hesitation—rage clicks, repeated field errors, or long idle time before leaving.
Segment by device, acquisition channel, and tenure. New users and returning operators behave differently on the same screen. A single blended funnel hides both stories.
Only then prioritize fixes. Redesign when friction is concentrated and costly. Clarify copy when users stall. Leave alone when exits follow completed work.
